(El Paso, TX)- In honor of Black History Month, a screening of the
film "Rebirth of a Nation" by Paul Miller (aka DJ Spooky That Subliminal
Kid), will be held downtown at The Percolator, 217 N Stanton on
Thursday, Feb 26th. Three screenings will be presented throughout the day.
Show times are 4:30PM, 7:20PM and 10:00PM. Local artists will display
their work throughout
the day and DJs will perform between screenings. Roster of artists and DJs
include Abstractamnesiac, Zeque Pena, Jacqueline Y, DJ Jascz, POE,
Mr. Lindsey, Shedrick and
live drumming by Grim Repercussion. This is a free event.
The film is a 'remix' of D.W. Griffith's 1915 "Birth of a Nation" that
was highly controversial due to its graphic portrayal of racism in the
post-Civil War south. Miller's remix deconstructs one of the most
influential and inflammatory movies ever made, while drawing striking
parallels to present socio-political conflicts in America. The film
includes Paul's original score, performed by Kronos Quartet.
