Arbor Day Celebration in City will be October 23, 2009

City will celebrate the planting of Trees


The City of El Paso Parks and Recreation Department will host Arbor Day at 10:00 a.m. on Friday, October 23, 2009 at Mission Hills Park, 3800 O’Keefe Dr.


“Arbor Day is an excellent opportunity each year to take stock of the trees in the City while encouraging home and business owners about the importance of trees for enhancing the environmental landscape of the city,” says Sam Calhoun, Parks Superintendent for the Parks and Recreation Department.


City Council Representative Ann Lilly will host the event and David Turner will be guest speaker along with Oscar Mestas from the Texas Forest Service. Members of the El Paso Parks and Recreation Advisory Board will be on hand as well.

Nanette Smejkal, Parks and Recreation Director will be Master of Ceremonies and the Pledge of Allegiance will be done by students of Mesita Elementary School. Deniece Baisley will sing the National Anthem and Rev. Lisle Davis will do the invocation.
