A 1909 Taft-Diaz Meeting Family Day
El Paso Museum of History
Saturday, October 17, 2009
2:00 PM to 4:00 PM
One hundred years ago to the day, then U.S. President William Howard Taft came to El Paso to meet with Mexican President Porfirio Diaz. This was a tremendous patriotic boost for El Paso. Everyone from the Boy Scouts to local school children participated. OnSaturday, October 17th, the El Paso Museum of History will bring that day back to life. From 2:00 to 4:00 PM visitors will have the opportunity to speak with President William Howard Taft who will appear as himself courtesy of Judge William Moody. Feel free to ask President Taft anything you want to; only be aware he will not know anything past 1909. The president will be very excited about his meeting with Mexican President Diaz which is why he is here. To add to the festivities, there will be a Boy Scout detachment in historic uniforms to “protect” the president. Other Boy Scouts will teach children how to be an honor guard. Other hands-on will activities include learning to make your own “bunting” to honor the Presidents and more. Free and open to all.
