Free, 2:00 PM to 4:00 PM
Macaws, jewelry making, folk dancers and more will all be part of the El Paso Museum’s FREE Family Day for the new exhibit entitled “Casas Grandes, Casas Chicas: Cottage Industries of Paquimé and Mata Ortiz.
Highlights of this event will include seeing a real Macaw; courtesy of the El Paso Zoo. Enjoy seeing this magnificent bird up close and not in a cage. Macaws figure prominently in both the ancient pottery of Paquimé and the new art of Mata Ortiz.
Children will make and take their own jewelry made from shells and stones. They will also make a small pot they can decorate in the Casas Grande style. In addition, Barbie Valdiviez-Schydlower and her troop of talented dancers will present regional dances.
